驚くべきモンスターグラフィックカードの性能とは?!
NVIDIAはGeForce GTX 280の発売を6月18日に予定しているようだ。GeForce GTX 280のコードネームはD10U-30であり、D10U-20のGTX 260の上位にあたる。以前の情報では、これらはGeForce 9900 GTX/GTSとネーミングされると予想していたが、ネーミング方法が変更になり、GTX 280/GTX 260となった。D10Uシリーズでは、買収したAGEIAの「 Technology」をGPUのShader Engineに統合されているらしい。メモリバス幅はGTX 280が512-bit、GTX 260が468-bitとなる。各スペックは下の表に示すので、それを参考にしてほしい。

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 folds 3x faster than Radeon HD 3870
性能に関して、NVIDIAは次世代シリーズのためにG90シリーズで用いられていたStream (Shader) Processorsの性能を50%ほど引き上げたようだ。GTX 280ではその240 Stream Processorsが、GTX 260では192 Stream Processorsが搭載されるらしい。
Nordic HardwareではGTX 280 GPUはFolding @ Homeのアプリケーションにおいて、ATI Radeon HD 3870よりも3倍速い処理速度であったと報告している。ちなみにPlayStation 3と比較した場合は、5倍速かったようだ。
GTX 280の性能はモンスター級であることは容易に想像がつく。しかし、その価格もモンスター級ではRadeonの新シリーズに倒される可能性がある。
